As you may have heard, the latest Hollywood star to be accused of sexual misconduct is Morgan Freeman. However, the accusations took many by surprise as Freeman is known for his prominent roles and “angelic figure” in the entertainment industry. But, according to Richmond Times-Dispatch, multiple women have already come forward claiming they were victimized by the actor himself.
CNN recently published a report claiming that the actor displayed a “pattern of inappropriate behavior” while on set and during the time he was promoting his movies and his production company Revelations Entertainment. A total of 16 women spoke out regarding their ties to these sexual harassment allegations, eight of which say they were subjected to the misconduct and eight who said they witnessed it. All of the women currently remain unanimous except for CNN reporter Chloe Melas. Melas claimed Freeman harassed her at a press junket which is what sparked the investigation.
It was 2017 when Melas came into contact with Freeman at a press junket for his movie “Going in Style.” When Melas went to shake the actor’s hand, “he didn’t let go for some time” and “looked her up and down.” She was six months pregnant at the time and she claimed Freeman told her “You are ripe” and later said, “I wish I was there.” Aside from Melas’ story, two other CNN reporters said Freeman made inappropriate remarks towards them as well during other press junkets.
Richmond Times-Dispatch also highlighted that seven of the women who were interviewed by CNN stated that the environment at Revelations Entertainment was one that “included allegations of harassment or inappropriate behavior by Freeman.” However, the company did not have a formal human resources department at this time.
Morgan Freeman is Speaking Out After Being Accused of Sexual Harassment
While many have come forward to either accuse or corroborate a claim made against the actor, Freeman isn’t staying quiet. In fact, his attorney is demanding that CNN retract the report they published. Freeman initially released a statement saying, “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected – that was never my intent.”
Just a few days after this statement was made, his attorney requested that the story be retracted and Freeman denied any wrongdoing. He also issued another statement where he said, “I am devastated that 80 years of my life is at risk of being undermined, in the blink of an eye, by Thursday’s media reports. I did not create unsafe work environments. I did not assault women. I did not offer employment or advancement in exchange for sex. Any suggestion that I did so is completely false.”
While there are always two sides to a story, until this one can be cleared up and the truth comes out, Freeman is facing some repercussions for his alleged actions. The source stated that the Screen Actors Guild which presented the actor with its coveted lifetime achievement award is considering revoking it. And that isn’t all.TransLink, which is Vancouver’s public transportation network, has paused using Freeman’s voice announcements as part of a VISA ad campaign that currently plays on the transit system.
As for CNN, they don’t plan on retracting the report. In fact, a CNN spokesperson issued a statement saying, “CNN stands by its reporting and will respond forcefully to any attempt by Mr. Freeman or his representatives to intimidate us from covering this important public issue.” Although some may
