Aside from the fact that truck collisions tend to be some of the worst types of accidents to occur on our roadways, they are also known to create a major mess depending on the product or good they are hauling. Generally, once a truck engages in an accident, the likelihood of their load spilling out is rather high. In fact, an accident recently occurred in South Dakota and according to UPI, which is one of the news outlets that reported on it, the wreck resulted in a “meaty mess.”
The South Dakota troopers who responded to the accident stated that the truck driver that was hauling the load of beef roasts was driving on U.S. Highway 12 nearby to Summit when the trucker carrying the paper products pulled out from a side street onto the highway and crashed into it. The impact caused the 31,000 pounds of beef roasts to spill out and onto the highway. The news outlet highlighted that the trucker driving the beef was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the other semi was uninjured. Although no charges were filed at the time the incident was reported on, the source did say that the state’s attorney would be looking further into the matter to determine if any should be.
As for the beef, all 16 tons of it were taken to a landfill to be disposed of.

According to The Daily Republic, a 32-year-old male had been operating a 2014 Volvo semi-truck and trailer on U.S. Highway 281 heading north near Bonesteel with a 36-year-old passenger inside. Unfortunately, the driver “entered a curve” and lost control of the vehicle. The semi rolled as a result and landed in a ditch. Sadly, the 36-year-old passenger was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and he was ejected from the semi. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
As for the driver, he was wearing his seatbelt although he did suffer some injuries and was transported to Wagner Community Memorial Hospital. His injuries were said to have been non-life threatening. The source highlighted that the South Dakota Highway Patrol was working to determine the cause of the crash and whether charges should be filed against the driver.
